The Strato debuted at PMA 2010 – since then it’s gone through a redesign and thorough testing. We’re photographers too – we don’t want to sell products that don’t perform.

In brief – the Phottix Strato is a 4-channel, 2.4 GHz system for triggering flashes and cameras. It triggers at ranges past 100 meters and can sync at speeds up to 1/250 sec. What sets the Strato apart?

Up till now, Pocketwizards have dominated the photographic world by producing the most reliable flash and camera triggering units with the furthest range. Phottix recently announced a challenger to the throne with a product aptly named as the Phottix Atlas. So can the measly Atlas actually take on the mighty Greek gods known as Pocketwizards Plus II units? Read on to find out!

Red Dot Photo recently acquired a few Atlas units for testing, and I've been using two of them. These were told to us as being a final production sample, but we're received word that Phottix has been tinkering with the units ever since we gave our feedback a few days ago. For the purpose of the review, I also recently purchased 3 x Pocketwizard Plus II units to compare with these Atlas units.

The launch of the Phottix Altas is set to change the landscape in wireless remote triggering and wireless flash triggering. With a range of 100+ meters and reliability matching that of PocketWizard, the Phottix Atlas will be something to watch out for in 2010.

Though the launch version does not have TTL capability (similar to the older Pocketwizard Plus II), it is great value for money as it is anticipated to have a street price of ~SGD160 per unit. It is also touted to work with existing PocketWizard units. We will publish a full detailed review of the Phottix Atlas right here next week!

The Phottix Atlas is expected to be launched for sale in June 2010 in Singapore.
