How to Post Photos/Images in the Forums

    Hi everyone,

I thought it may be useful to highlight the different ways to post photos and images in this forum.

    A. Direct Attachment (from your Computer)

The easiest and most recommended way is to simply post images as direct attachments.

Click on the "Insert Image" button in the editor toolbar (which looks like this: ).

Name:	insertimage1.jpg
Views:	99
Size:	13.8 KB
ID:	674
Select the "From Computer" tab (which is actually selected by default).

Name:	insertimage3.jpg
Views:	35
Size:	11.2 KB
ID:	675

Click "Select Files" and select the files you want to upload; you can select more than one file at a time.

Name:	insertimage2.jpg
Views:	100
Size:	11.8 KB
ID:	676

Proceed to upload your photos by clicking on Upload Files.

    B. External Linking (from External Website)

The second method to post photos and images is to link them back from your online photo album, image gallery, blog, website etc and then link it back here.

To do this, click on the Insert Image button above the text box area where you type your posts.

After that, you select "From URL" and enter in the URL of the image which you want to link back.

It is recommended that you also check the box "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" checked (for reasons, see below). If you check the box, the image will be pulled from your external website onto our servers and will be considered as "attached" to the post here like in (A) above. The only difference is that the photo being attached is uploaded from your external website rather than from your computer.

If you leave the box unchecked, [IMG] tags will be added around your link and the image will be served from your external website (which may load more slowly depending on international internet traffic).

    Viola you are done!

    C. Adjusting your Attachment Options

Once you have attached your images using either method (A) or (B), you can adjust the attachment image options such as choosing how big to display the image, or how the image should be aligned.

This only works for images that are attached, not those which are linked using [IMG] tags

When you mouseover the top left hand corner of the attachment thumbnail, a "pencil" appears, click on that.

Name:	insertimage4.jpg
Views:	100
Size:	14.4 KB
ID:	677

You can then set the various options; most of the time you just need to select Full Size for the second setting.

Name:	insertimage5.jpg
Views:	100
Size:	23.9 KB
ID:	678

    Which to Use?

The direct attachment method is recommended because many years down the road, those external websites may no longer be around and our forums will end up having threads with nothing but dead image links.

If you attach the photos here, the images will always be able to appear so long as our forum remains up and running.

In addition, images will load faster since our forum is hosted in Singapore, while many photo albums or external websites are located in the US or outside of Singapore.

If you wish to have your own photo album, you can also make use of our member's album feature right here! In this way, you access everything in one place!

Further information can be found at this tutorial:

How to Create Your Own Photo Albums and Use Them in Posts Threads

If you MUST link back from an external website, please leave the "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" as it would help with the above problems!!

    Thanks!!!
