so many rumours so little truth!
what is canon doing? protecting the 5D2 sales or pushing photographers to the dark side?!

[UPDATE 2 MARCH 2012]
The Canon 5D MkIII still mostly under wraps?
As the whole world counts down to Canon's media event later today, one cannot help but feel that all the hype that has led up to today's launch was a little deflated when Canon Rumors released a set of "official" specifications for the highly anticipated Canon 5D MkIII.
See anything new there? Neither do I. Most of the key features of the 5D MkIII as released by Canon Rumors are merely incremental and, after Nikon's announcements earlier this year, expected of a professional DSLR that is released in 2012. In the words of a poster on Canon Rumor's Facebook page, "Nice to see that canon has finally catch up with the older Nikon D700. Lol"Unsurpassed Image Quality

Which is strange because for years Canon has led the pack with its phenomenal video capability in its DSLRs from it's pro-sumer range (the Canon 550D onwards) right up to the Canon 5D MkII which was recently featured as the camera of choice for the upcoming blockbuster Act of Valor.
With less than 4 hours to go before Canon's media event begins, here's to hoping that the people behind the 5D MkIII have something up their sleeves.
Meanwhile, watch our page for updates on the Singapore Canon launch at Orchard ION:

[30th January]
Rumors bubbling around the 5D MkIII haven't been very kind to Canon fans who have been eagerly waiting for a follow-up to the DSLR (along with the 7D) that practically revolutionized independent cinema.
However, Canon Rumors points out that a launch next week featuring the 5D MkIII is unlikely, and that we should be expecting a 1D X product release late February instead.
But if Nikon launches a high end DSLR capable of video recording that falls around the 5D MkIII's projected price range - that is to say, outside the price range of a 1D X which will probably be directly competing with the D4 - Canon would be pressured to release a competitor.

Canon 5DX and Canon 5D Mark III --> hardly any difference then the huge pixel count for Canon 5DX which seems a contender against the Nikon D800E instead.

I think the huge pixel count would be a big difference re: justifying having to buy 2 different systems. I also think the difference makes sense — high megapixel count squeezed into a 35mm sensor would mean that you can capture more detail but at a cost of ISO performance, hence the rumored Canon 5Dx only pushes up to ISO12,800 while the Canon 5D Mk III pushes up to 2 stops more: ISO51,200.
The Canon 5D system split is a logical step — agree with The Miracle that the rumored Canon 5Dx is in position to directly compete with Nikon's newly launched D800 and D800E. But the question is always if the ISO improvements for the Canon 5D Mk III ISO are true hardware improvements or are they simply a result of improved in-camera correction. ISO improvements are always dodgy at best until we see actual pictures showing that 1-stop improvement.
Nikon seems to be slightly ahead of the game at the moment, with the Nikon D4, D800 and D800E all having been given expected launch periods. The Canon might just lose a few customers to the 36.4 megapixel Nikon D800 if it doesn't release details on its lineup soon.

The Canon 5D Mk III is confirmed and slated for a 27 February announcement date, according to Canon Rumors.
No word on the Canon 5D Mk III and 5Dx split though.

hey, I guess mk3 WILL coming in three years./..![]()
