How to shoot my own passport photos and what resolution is needed?
anyone? ICA seems to say that the picture needs only to be small..
And how sure what camera is good enough and if i need any lighting, studio setup?

According to the ICA website, the following specs are relevant for digtal passport photos:

Digital photo image file with the following specifications :
- in JPEG format ('jpg' extension);
- Of File size around 150 Kbytes;
- Preferred dimension of 400(Width) by 514 (Height) in pixels.

You renewing passport or making I/C? IC requirements here (abit different):
Image files in JPEG ('jpg' extension) with a file size of not more than 60KB each of:
(a) Your photograph:
- Preferred Image Dimension of 400 (Width) x 514 (Height) pixels;
- File size less than 60 Kbytes (File size can be reduced by compressing your image);
- Must be in colour taken against plain white background without shadows;
- Taken within the last 3 months; and
- Show the full face and without headgear; (headgear worn in accordance with religious or racial customs is acceptable but must not hide the facial features);
- Preferred Resolution of 150 dpi

Need what flash or studio strobes?

Passport photo I normally just use bounce flash can liao; no need so big setup unless you want to run it as a business

Probably get a plain background that isn't distracting. On top of that, it would be nice to get a tripod if you are shooting yourself.
As poseidon mentioned, the bounce flash is pretty much more than enough to my opinion. Afterall, the picture size is gonna be small.

for me, i just use one flash and bounce it with a white wall under my hdb and than ps away some shadows and some touchup

a normal white background with a flash should do the job!

Two flash setup.. one to light up your face, another to bright up your wall
