Canon Enters Motion Picture Production with the Cinema EOS System

Yesterday, Canon Inc. and Canon Singapore today announced the company’s foray into the motion picture production industry with the Cinema EOS System, a new professional Digital Cinematography System. This comprises the Cinema EOS lens, digital video camcorder and digital SLR camera products.
The new Cinema EOS series products include two digital video camcorders, seven EF Cinema Lenses, and a Digital SLR camera which is still under development.

The highlight of the new Cinema EOS System today is the new Canon EOS C300/C300 PL digital video camcorder, available in EF-mount and PL-mount variants. With a Super 35mm-equivalent 8.29-megapixel CMOS sensor and Full HD (1920x1080) triple-channel RGB output, it is ideally suited for digital cinematography.

Under development is a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor equipped Digital SLR with 4K video recording capability. Additional details have yet to be decided, and the next few months will surely be an exciting time for Canon fans.

Announced together with the announced cameras was a new lineup of EF Cinema Lenses; they are:
- CN-E 14.5-60mm T2.6 L S (EF mount)
- CN-E 14.5-60mm T2.6 L SP (PL mount)
- CN-E 30-300mm T2.95-3.7 L S (EF mount)
- CN-E 30-300mm T2.95-3.7 L SP (PL mount)
- CN-E 24mm T1.5 L F (EF mount)
- CN-E 50mm T1.3 L F (EF mount)
- CN-E 85mm T1.3 L F (EF mount)
Crucially, the new Cinema EOS System is compatible with Canon's existing range of EF mount lenses; that means that the EOS cinematographer has within his/her grasp a huge selection of possible lenses for the job at hand.
All pricing is to be advised at this stage, stay tuned for more updates!
