Canon S100 Enthusiast Compact Announced!

The successor to the venerable Canon Powershot S95 has been announced! While following the same formula that made the S90 and S95 such popular cameras - large sensor in a compact body, 5x zoom lens with a fast f/2 max aperture at wide angle, manual modes and a control dial - the S100's innards prove that it is very much a brand new camera.

Most crucially, the S100 is part of the first wave of cameras to feature Canon's new DIGIC V image processor. Analysing four times more image information to create each pixel, recording more detail and colour than a scene than the previous generation's DIGIC IV. With a processing speed six times that of the DIGIC IV, the new DIGIC V manages to reduce the appearance of image noise by up to 75%. Coupled with Canon's new high-sensitivity 12.1 megapixel 1/1.7-type CMOS, the S100 offers fast shooting speeds and even better image quality in all conditions, with a maximum sensitivity of ISO 6400.
The S100 also continues one of the S95's most popular features: a 5x zoom lens with a fast f/2 maximum aperture at a wide-angle 24mm equivalent. With 4-stops of Image Stabilisation and seven intelligent IS-modes built-in, the S100 is fully equipped to get the shot in all shooting situations.

As an enthusiast compact camera, the S100 offers full manual control over shooting settings and modes. It supports shooting in RAW format, and offers compatibility with Canon's Digital Photo Professional (DPP) as standard, providing a perfect second camera for DSLR users. The popular Lens Control Ring and control dial remains, allowing users to assign a myriad of image parameters to tactile controls to suit their individual shooting styles.
The S100 innovates as well; its integrated GPS unit logs and tags the location of every photo taken, and Full HD (1080p) videos can be recorded at 24fps. An HDMI-CEC port makes it easy to playback and share videos on compatible HDTVs.
