Canon 500D be used wirelessly with the Nissin Di466 with the Nissin Di466 in digital slave mode. Hence line of sight is needed and the pop-up flash of the Canon 500D has to be activated. One can dial down the flash intensity of the pop-up flash to say -2EV if the direct flash from the pop-up flash is not intended.

Note that the Nissin Di466 for Canon is current's not compatible with radio flash triggers such as Phottix Strato and Pocket Wizard.
