For regular NiMH batteries which 'hold charge' such as Sanyo Eneloop, GP Recyckos, Powerex Imedions, it should last ~100 full power bursts. For regular usage, perhaps 400 shots before you need to change batteries. The GP 2700mAh type belong to the category where the batteries do not hold charge after a couple of days.

If you use a regular charger, you might not know what is status of the battery. The batteries might be old already, or 1 or 2 of the 4 batteries are lemon. A regular charger will measure the overall voltage of the all batteries and the indicator maybe 'green' but the batteries are not actually fully charged. Only battery analysers such as the Maha Powerex C9000 will be able to do the analysis etc.

If you use regular alkaline batteries or another fresh set of rechargeable batteries and you can only pull of 15 shots still, then the flash would need to be looked at.

My guess is that the batteries are at fault here.
