Canon 60D with Nissin Di866 problem

Anyone using 60D? I cant get the Di866 to fire on its own. My in-built flash will fire together even when my camera settings are set to fire only external flash. Anyone using 60D has the same problem as well?

    Hi,

What do you mean by the Di866 cannot fire 'on its own'?

If you're using wireless TTL flash, the pop-up flash will fire a small flash anyway even if you select it not to fire. This 'flash' is the signal that the Nissin Di866 or Nissin Di622 Mark 2 detects as the signal.

An option is to cover up the pop-up flash (gaffer tape or something), or get a blocker (mountable on the hotshoe).

Else if you don't need TTL, do consider wireless radio flash triggers.

Means I only want the Di866 to fire but not the in-built flash to fire. Right now both in-built flash and Di866 fires at the same time.
You mean there is no option to only fire the Di866?

    Hi,

Yes, there's no option just to fire the Di866 via wireless TTL options. If you want to fire the Di866 without the popup flash firing, you can use radio triggers etc.

This is no fault of Di866 or Canon 580EXII etc speedlights but the technology behind wireless TTL flash systems. Nikon's CLS system also uses similar technology to run it.
