Sony's New Patent Sensors!!
Sony is working on new sensor designs (patent disclosure)

One of the latest Sony patents disclosed a new kind of sensor. Pixel size does change based on their color characteristic. This does make sense because every color has a different sensivity. Read the google english translation:
Patent publication number 2010-129548
2010/06/10 Release date 2010/06/10
2008/11/25 Filing Date November 25, 2008
Current Issues
The signal level is smaller and more pixelated, S / N ratio is difficult to ensure

Another new patent discloses a honeycomb image sensor

The new form of the photodiodes should improve the sensor performance. With that design less transistors are needed and as a consequence you can have more megapixels. We don’t know if it really works and if we will ever see such a sensor in a real camera!
* Patent Publication No. 2010-161200
* published 2010/07/22. Filled 2009/01/08
* Distance of the pixel is equal with all courses in the case of a honeycomb
* Less number of transistors used
* Low cost
* It can increase the number of the pixels
* Good sensitivity
* It assumes seven pixels one unit

Honeycomb sensors speaks of the Fujifilm super CCD?
Honeycomb sensors speaks of the Fujifilm super CCD? Fujifilm S3/S5 had superb 'velvia-slides' like qualities. If Nikon is going to adopt Sony's sensors similar to what is happening now, it'll be a great force to reckon with!
watch out, Canon!
