    Sony's New Patent Sensors!!

    Sony is working on new sensor designs (patent disclosure)

    One of the latest Sony patents disclosed a new kind of sensor. Pixel size does change based on their color characteristic. This does make sense because every color has a different sensivity. Read the google english translation:

    Patent publication number 2010-129548
    2010/06/10 Release date 2010/06/10
    2008/11/25 Filing Date November 25, 2008
    Current Issues
    The signal level is smaller and more pixelated, S / N ratio is difficult to ensure
    RGB wavelengths the energy profile for each file is different
    Color imbalance
    Patent Technology
    Energy profiles corresponding to the active area (pixel size) and
    Long wavelength light (Red) is a large photodiode (detector sensors) and
    Silicon on the substrate, R is the weakest of the irradiation energy
    RGbGrB square fit to
    Consider the type and surface radiation exposure type back
    Bayer employs
    Pixel pitch of 1.1μm (back radiation) 2.5μm and (irradiated surface) examined

    Another new patent discloses a honeycomb image sensor

    The new form of the photodiodes should improve the sensor performance. With that design less transistors are needed and as a consequence you can have more megapixels. We don’t know if it really works and if we will ever see such a sensor in a real camera!

    * Patent Publication No. 2010-161200
    * published 2010/07/22. Filled 2009/01/08
    * Distance of the pixel is equal with all courses in the case of a honeycomb
    * Less number of transistors used
    * Low cost
    * It can increase the number of the pixels
    * Good sensitivity
    * It assumes seven pixels one unit

    Honeycomb sensors speaks of the Fujifilm super CCD?

    Honeycomb sensors speaks of the Fujifilm super CCD? Fujifilm S3/S5 had superb 'velvia-slides' like qualities. If Nikon is going to adopt Sony's sensors similar to what is happening now, it'll be a great force to reckon with!

    watch out, Canon!
