    Stratos Compatability

Is the Stratos with TTL passthrough compatible with the Nikon D40X ? It doesn't appear in the model selection list in the Phottix shop. The slaves will be Nikon sB-600's, so no drama there, But as the D40X has no input socket, so it's relying on hot shoe compatibility.

As fair as we think, the Stratos should work with D40X. What to you mean by D40X has no input socket?

To get TTL pass through, simply put the Strato transmitter on the hotshoe, SB600 on the transmitter in TTL mode and try it.

    Stratos Compatability reply

Thanks for the quick response; on a Sunday too!
The D40X doesn't have a PC synch terminal like other Nikons; the female socket terminal that can be used for computer control or external TTL enabled extension cords with their own hot shoe. You have to use a TTL enabled hot shoe adapter with a pc synch socket on it: like the AS-10.

So whereas on many Nikons you could use just a simple cable to control the Stratos if for some reason the hot shoe wasn't compatible with the pins on the Stratos. With the D40X, you can't.

If the pins aren't compatible then you'ld also have to buy an AS-10 TTL adapter and an SC-18 TTL cable or similar to go on the camera hot shoe, attach the Stratos to the cable end hot shoe, and the flash on top of the Stratos.

This would give both TTL on the SB-600 flash (in my case) and wireless remote.
If the Stratos is pin compatible with the D40X hot shoe, then you don't need to bother with all this; they just stack up on the camera like they should.

It probably is compatible but Phottix don't actually say that the D40X is pin compatible, and I can't say I feel like ordering equipment on the off-chance that it is. Perhaps you might know if the D40X and the other Nikons that are Stratos suitable, have the same hot shoe pinout? That would do even if Phottix haven't tested the Stratos on a D40X.

Let me know your thoughts. Many thanks again.

The pin out should be the same. We haven't tested it on the D40X, thank you for your feedback and all the best for your purchase!
