Sony presents "Inspiring Innovation", a media conference event (dated 22-02-2011) which introduced a series of new and exciting products launched under Sony’s technological banner. The event started off with three presentations showcasing the BRAVIA, Vaio and Digital Imaging series and this was followed by a product demonstration, which exhibited products from each of these three series.
VAIO and BRAVIA
Under the BRAVIA LCD HDTV banner, Sony’s innovations include 11 new 3D capable models and 20 Internet connected models. Sony aims to “redefine the form and function of television in order to deliver a complete entertainment experience.” Besides these innovative features, Sony maintains a monolithic design for these BRAVIA models. Internet TV allows the connection to Internet via wi-fi or Ethernet connection and users can sit back and enjoy surfing or streaming videos from their favourite sites on a big screen TV. They can even enjoy free widescreen Skype video calls in the comfort of their living rooms. The 3D TV models allow users to watch their favourite 3D movies and shows in high quality and with user-friendly features.

Sony’s VAIO series promises a new and exciting line-up of notebooks and PCs – the VAIO S, F, C, and L series. These new technologies aim to meet different lifestyles and for different uses such as business or entertainment. They offer various functionalities and design such as 3D technology, HD entertainment, full HD touch screen panel and practical mobility.
Digital imaging
In line with Red Dot Photo’s agenda, the digital imaging presentation was of particular interest to us. Launching new camcorders and digital cameras, Sony brings an array of innovation to users. Sony reinvents its handycam camcorder lineup with the breakthrough camcorder – HDR-TD10. This camcorder features the world’s first “Double Full HD” 3D camcorder and it is accredited so due to its integrated dual lens system which includes double Sony G lenses, double “Exmor R” CMOS sensors and double “BIONZ” image processors. This dual recording system allows 3D content to be played back in full HD 2D on non-3D displays. The camcorder also offers 10x optical zoom with Optical SteadyShot and iAUTO in 3D mode. Another interesting and innovative feature of this camcorder is the built-in projector which offers the ultimate playback experience as users can project their recorded movies onto any flat surface.

Sony’s new cyber-shot digital cameras also include some of the features of a camcorder such as advanced 3D and full HD video capability. The TX100V, TX10, HX7V and WX7 models are pioneers of compact digital still cameras with the 3D still Image mode that allows capturing 3D images with only one lens and imager. The models also come with “Dual Rec” technology, which allows capturing of still photos during video recording. Unique to a digital still camera, the TX100V also include Full HD video capability. Another great feature of the new Sony cameras is the fast and easy connectivity provided by Cyber-shot J10, which has a built-in USB connector.

Another new release by Sony that provides instant connectivity to users is the Bloggie HD camera. It offers high quality MP4 video and still shooting, as well as easy web sharing capability. There are two Bloggie models – the Bloggie Duo and Bloggie 3D. Both models allow the capture of full HD MP4 videos and 5-megapixel still photos. The Bloggie 3D allows the capture of 3D or 2D videos and photos in high quality due to its two lenses, two image sensors, stereo microphone and built-in LED light. The Bloggie Duo then offers the dual-screen option, which features two LCD screens on the back and front of the camera. And another great feature is its instant connectivity where all Bloggie cameras has the Bloggie software which has integrated support for popular sites such as Facebook and Youtube. This allows easy and instantaneous sharing of videos and photos online.

At the product demonstration, we had an opportunity to view the various products Sony has to offer and even tried our hands at using them. Sony new technologies offer innovations with various functionalities and features that further enhance photography and the technological world. Users can look forward to the market launch of these new innovations in the following months to come.
