Sony SAL500F40G 500mm A-Mount Telephoto Lens

Sony launched the Sony SAL500F40G 500mm A-Mount Telephoto Lens yesterday -- the latest addition to their G lens range. The lens is the longest G lens released to-date, and can be paired with an APSC A-Mount camera and a 1.4x SAL14TC Teleconverter to give you a 1050mm (35mm equivalent) focal length at f/8 with autofocus, according to Sony.

The Sony SAL500F40G 500mm telephoto is designed with interlocking weather seals that keep dust and moisture out of the lens, making it a perfect complement to the weather sealed Sony SLT-A77 (α77).

Olympus — amidst the rising tide of mirrorless systems — has revived it’s legacy OM SLR line and released a tank of a camera that is the Olympus OM-D EM5.

With 40 years of legacy behind its OM cameras, Olympus is returning to a formula that they are familiar with — cameras that look good and perform under difficult situations. Its Olympus Digital E-series were a far cry from the Olympus OM-x SLRs (with the exception of the well-built E-5), which were known for their legendary hardiness and were built during a time where the onus of image quality rested not on the camera but on the lens and the film used. Right now Olympus claims that their OMD series are weather sealed throughout, including its accessories i.e. external flashes, vertical grips, lenses.

I AM THE BIG PICTURE

Nikon launched the D800 today with greatly increased resolving power — more than twice the megapixel count of the D4. Skeptics have jumped on the high megapixel count, picking on the most obvious flaw in the pushing megapixels: that packing more megapixels while not increasing sensor size will only reduce image quality.

But what was shown at Nikon Singapore's D800 launch today was a display of unexpectedly high resolving power. Nikon claims that the "effective pixel count" of the D800 is 36.3 megapixels. Whether it is a hardware or software upgrade from the usual FX CMOS sensors, Nikon could not confirm at press time. But from the sample images shown, we are able to see that the D800's sensor is able capture an astonishing amount of detail.

Chingay 2012
The crowd filled the galleries — expectantly watching an ankle-deep pool that sat in the middle of the F1 track. The water was held in place by what looked like a giant inflatable rubber playpen, awaiting the parade of colours, people and floats to splash through in a brilliant display of costume and watery sparkles. The Chingay, which turns 40 this year, was set to make an early splash in the Year of the Water Dragon.

Rumours have been flying around, for a new Panasonic Lumix G camera, to possibly rival the very successful Olympus PEN E-P3. Panasonic GF3 has taken the 'mini mirrorless' section whilst the G3 and GH2 has yet to compete successfully with the Olympus PEN E-P3. Here comes the Panasonic GX1? A new series, with a very good grip, while looking very much like a Panasonic GF2 and the very first GF1 (in terms of size) could be a serious content to the EP3. The Panasonic GF2 was only launched early this year, and the GX1 looks very similar to it, with a souped up Venus engine and 0.09 second AF!
