Nikon P900 83X Zoom up to 2000mm: Setting the new standard in super zooms
The zoom power of the COOLPIX P900 is nothing short of spectacular. This is 83x (2000mm equivalent) optical zoom—more than any Nikon COOLPIX yet. Advanced shooters will appreciate the outstanding image quality and DSLR styling—a sure grip, a swiveling Vari-angle display, a high-resolution Electronic Viewfinder that turns on automatically when lifted to your eye, even a PSAM mode control dial. Those who simply want great photos and Full HD videos without any fuss will appreciate the point-and-shoot ease and long battery life—up to 360 shots per charge! And everyone will appreciate the built-in Wi-Fi® and Near Field Communication technology (NFC)** connectivity which wirelessly connects the COOLPIX P900 to a compatible smartphone or tablet for instant photo sharing and remote camera control. Change the way you see, capture and share the world.

We brought it out for a spin during the Singapore Golden Jubilee weekend, first to the black knights display, to the fireworks rehearsals and finally on National Day itself.

First off, the pride of Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Black Knight's, firing up the skies over the Marina Bay area. The Nikon P900 did pretty well in terms of AutoFocusing during the flight of the planes, though Jpeg compression can be seen in some of the images especially at maximum zoom. The key takeaway is how smooth the zooming is during video taking and even though the shots were hand-held by our amateur photographer, they look pretty usable. Auto Focus tracking during video mode and during 'intense' zooming proved a superb point for this light weight at just 899 grams.

A view from Gardens by the Bay East on one of the fireworks rehearsals. The
1/2.3 inch sensor pretty well, here at ISO 200, f/6.3 8 seconds. No post-processing at all.

A similar view but at 2000mm zoom. With such a powerful lens in your hands, it's very tempting to 'zoom all the way' and push the limits of the camera. Here at ISO6400 f/6.5, 0.5seconds: this shot is hand-held, proving the amazing anti-shake as well as the preservation of details at relatively high ISO of 6400 and a small sensor 1/2.3 inches. Pretty awesome zooming here!

It was National Day Parade 2015 next and the Nikon P900 showed it's zooming powers again. Here the gloomy skies doesn't make for great images but this is to show the amazing zooming power!

Here at Maximum zoom again from the same shooting spot, with the helicopters in very clear view, with rotor and shape definition in clear view.

Shooting of fireworks using the Nikon P900 is rather tricky without a bulb mode nor a shutter release port. Here's a shot at ISO100, f/8 5 seconds in full manual mode, with decent exposure albeit a smoky situation. 100% out of camera shot without edits!

With a stable tripod and timed shutter release, the Nikon P900 can pull off single exposure shots pretty nicely here at ISO100 f/3.2 2 seconds at -0.7eV. This shot was taken directly in Jpg. Add in some HDR and shooting in raw would definitely help in the quality of the outcome.

Overall a very nifty little camera with a superb full HD recording as well as a state-of-the-art zooming function. I'd like the sensor to be of EXPEED heritage to have that 'DSLR' look as well as perhaps bulb/more manual functions.
