  • Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm f4.0-5.6 II Lens

Olympus Imaging announces the launch of the new M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm f4.0-5.6 II super-zoom type lens for OM-D and PEN cameras!

With a compact size and a versatile wide-angle to long-telephoto *28-300mm zoom range, Olympus’ latest M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm f4.0-5.6 II lens is ideal for ‘one-lens’ travel, sport and family photography. Its splash and dust-proofing qualities provides the photographer with shooting confidence in all weather conditions when combined with the OM-D E-M1, E-M5, and the latest E-M5 Mark II cameras. The updated styling of this light-weight 10.7x zoom complements the design of the latest OM-D and PEN camera bodies.

Retaining the sophisticated optical design of the earlier M.Zuiko Digital 14-150mm super-zoom model, Olympus’ pro-grade ZERO lens coating is applied to all lens surfaces of this new lens, significantly enhancing optical performance in terms of picture contrast, flare-resistance and clarity. Its near focus range of 0.5m is achievable at all zoom settings, giving macro capability even at the 300m telephoto end. The lens aperture system has also been reworked for improved video exposure stability. Movie & Still Compatible AF drive system provides silent and rapid focus.

The new M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm II is an ideal lens choice for all-occasion photographic and movie capture convenience. It is compatible with all Micro Four Thirds cameras.

M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm f4.0-5.6 II Key Specifications

    Main Features:

    1. Dustproof and splashproof construction for all-condition shooting

Unlike the earlier M.Zuiko Digital 14-150mm super-zoom model, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm f4.0-5.6 II is equipped with dustproof and splashproof seals. When combined with the OM-D E-M1 or E-M5 Mark II, a high level of impermeability against sand, dust, and water droplets is maintained, making it possible to shoot without worry even in difficult environmental conditions.

    2. Ultra compact form with dedicated digital design for superior imaging performance

2.1 Significantly compact and high image quality

With a maximum diameter of approximately φ64mm, its compact size and form houses a 10.7x high-magnification zoom lens. Its optical system consists of many high-performance optical glass lenses, comprising DSA*1, EDA*2, and E-HR*3 lens elements for superb image quality at every zoom setting.

    2.2 Excellent close-up shooting capability

This new lens has a closest shooting distance of 50cm (approx. 33cm from the end of the lens). Up to a maximum shooting magnification of 0.22x (35mm equivalent: 0.44x) is possible.

    2.3 ZERO Coating

ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) Coating, Olympus‘ highest performance multi-coating type, is applied to all optical surfaces making it possible to thoroughly minimise ghosting and contrast-reducing lens flare. ZERO Coating ensures clear image quality in backlit and other unfavourable lighting conditions.

    2.4 Circular aperture

A circular aperture mechanism is used to create natural defocusing effects, and aesthetically pleasing circular highlights.

    3. Sophisticated controls

    3.1 High-speed, silent autofocus

An inner focusing system is used, and an MSC mechanism consisting of just two lenses for a compact, lightweight lens unit, makes high-speed, silent autofocus possible. This makes for comfortable and enjoyable, stress-free still image and movie shooting.

    3.2 Smooth manual focus

The manual focusing mechanism is designed to offer a responsive feel, with just the right amount of resistance to enable smooth, precise operation.

    *1 Dual Super Aspherical
    *2 Extra-low Dispersion Aspheric
    *3 Extra High Refractive index

    Optional accessories

    1. Protection Filter PRF-D58 PRO for protecting the lens from scratches

This is a lightweight, thin protection filter with a filter diameter of φ58mm. Double-sided multi-coating and blackened glass edges are used to suppress flaring and ghosts caused by reflections, and a satin finish black alumite aluminum frame is used for a matte surface.

    2. Lens Case LSC-0914 for protecting the lens

This pouch-style lens case protects lenses with a three-layer construction. The lens can be stored in this case with the lens hood (attached backward), lens cap, and protection filter attached.

The new M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-150mm f4.0-5.6 II is available in black only and is expected to be available in March 2015.
