Impressive 4K productions with the EOS C500 and EOS C500 PL
Canon’s new high-performance EOS C500 and EOS C500 PL digital cinema cameras are capable of uncompressed RAW data output for impressive 4K-resolution (4096 x 2160-pixel) recordings*. Furthermore, Canon Log Gamma enables 4K-resolution video capture with a high dynamic range that can be output as Canon’s proprietary uncompressed Cinema RAW data (60p, 10-bit) with no image degradation.

The cameras are capable of achieving rich color reproduction while supporting efficient post-production editing as well as chroma key compositing and other image processing tasks with the new 10/12-bit RGB 4:4:4 signal format during 2K (2048 x 1080) and Full HD output. The cameras also support frame rate up to 120p in both 4K and 2K modes, offering creative flexibility for high frame rate (slow motion) video capture.

The cinema cameras feature an industry-standard-size Super 35 mm-equivalent CMOS sensor (approximately 8.85 million effective pixels) that, in addition to delivering a high pixel count, is capable of high-sensitivity performance with a maximum ISO setting of 20,000.

In addition to a highly mobile, compact body that excels in confined shooting environments for exceptional filmmaking versatility, the EOS C500 and EOS C500 PL include a range of new features that contribute to enhanced operating ease. Designed based on user feedback, the cameras incorporate the Cinema Lock, a lens locking function that allows lens replacement with the same level of ease as PL lenses, even when attaching heavy lenses with the camera mounted on a rig.

*4K and 2K recordings are done via the cameras’ 3G-SDI output to third party external recorders.

EOS C100, a lightweight and cost-efficient cinema camera
Canon’s new interchangeable-lens professional cinema camera EOS C100 caters to the demands of a wide range of projects at reduced production costs, from school film projects and wedding events to broadcast news coverage. Given its compact body design that is approximately 15% less in volume* and approximately 29% lighter in weight%, and together with a range of new automatic features, the EOS C100 is an ideal companion for single users. Despite this, motion picture quality is not compromised as the EOS C100 is based on the core performance of the acclaimed EOS C300 launched in January this year.

The EOS C100 is equipped with an industry-standard-size Super 35 mm-equivalent CMOS sensor (approximately 8.29 million effective pixels), boosting the capabilities of the video camera. The large sensor provides creative depth of field capabilities for attractive blurring of images, also known as the “bokeh” effect. The cameras offer an exceptional ISO range of 320 to 20,000. Moreover, the EOS C100’s sensor captures Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) video signals for each of the three RGB primary colors, decreasing the incidence of moiré while realising high resolution with 1,000 horizontal TV lines.

EOS C100 supports Canon’s diverse lineup of interchangeable EF lenses for EOS single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras as well as new EF Cinema Lenses, delivering imaging performance ideally suited for cinematic applications.

The EOS C100 has a range of new automatic features to support solo users. Equipped with “Push Auto Iris” and “One-Shot AF” buttons, the EOS C100 enables one-touch automatic iris and focus adjustment. The new Auto White Balance uses Canon’s powerful DIGIC DV III image processor to detect and balance colour information, allowing users to concentrate on other matters while filming. Additionally, when used with the EF-S18¬-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM (released in June 2012), a new function (to be made available as a firmware update in the first half of 2013) will enable the automatic continuous adjustment of focus and iris settings for subjects located in the center of the frame.
