    Nissin MF18 Macro Ring Flash
    Introduction
Macro photography enthusiasts have something to look forward to — Nissin's entry into the Macro flash category comes in the form of the Nissin MF18 Macro Ring Flash. The Nissin MF18 manages to hold its own against its proprietary counterparts like the Canon MR-14 EX — with two independently controllable flash tubes (named Side A and Side B), and fine lighting control that lets you power down the flash to 1/1024 in steps of 1/6EV, the MF18 is one of the best flashes you can get at the S$400 - S$600+ price range.

Ratio control for Side A and Side B for the Nissin MF18 Macro Ring Flash

The Nissin MF18 Macro Ring Flash comes in a neat package containing an Infra-red transmitter that controls the flash tubes, a plastic ring-shaped housing that two flash tubes (Side A and B) are fitted into, and 6 lens adaptors of varying sizes to fit the lens to the flash ring, giving you everything you need to shoot a macro photograph short of the macro lens itself.

Macro ring flashes like the Nissin MF18 mount on the lens filter itself, letting you bring the flash closer to the subject so that light cast on it is gentler and the shadows less harsh. The Nissin MF18 has a TTL mode that is compatible with Nikon and Canon flashes, but if you prefer more control over the flash, you can switch over to manual mode and adjust the flash power from 1/1 to 1/128 in 1/3 steps. On top of that, you'll be able to exert Ratio Control over the flash tubes Side A and Side B - choosing the individual flash powers of each tube to create directional light.

If you want even more control, the Nissin MF18 has a Fine Macro mode that lets you select flash powers of 1/128 to 1/1024 in 1/6 steps, allowing you to shoot your macro subjects in very low key lighting - giving you a greater degree of shadow control and letting you create more drama in your pictures.

Own a speedlight or two? The Nissin MF 18 can wirelessly trigger 2 groups (A & C, group B is occupied by the 2 native tube flashes) in 4 channels, giving you infinite lighting possibilities.
