  • Double Trouble: Fuji X Pro 1 and X-Mount Lenses announced at CES2012

Standing tall among the torrent of camera releases at CES 2012 is Fujifilm’s latest member of their X series cameras — the X Pro 1. True to the X-series’ distinctive flavour, the X Pro 1 is built like to feel and look like a mechanical rangefinder and outperforms most cameras that share its small form factor.

What’s new is the introduction of the X-mount lenses — the X Pro 1 being the first interchangeable lens digital camera that carries this proprietary system. Fujifilm’s interchangeable lens systems tended to be borrowed, as in the case of their Sx Pro systems that borrowed Nikon’s hardware to house their Super CCD sensors.

    New Features:
    • New CMOS sensor called X-TransTM CMOSTM
    • New EXR Processor Pro
    • Three Fujinon dedicated XF
    • FUJIFILM Attack "X-Mount"
    • Hybrid Multi Viewfinder
    • Film Simulation Mode Advanced

Fujifilm has released pictures from the XPro1 on their website -- and the detail/ISO performance looks incredible.

At ISO1600, the XPro1's picture quality could match the Leica M9's:

We're watching this camera really closely -- who know's, we might sell off our DSLR systems and just use this for all our shoots.

Also coming up -- an X-mount adaptor that would let you shoot with legacy Fujinon lenses and (reportedly) Leica M-mount lenses.

Looks very very shiok. Fuji put up pictures from their 18mm, 35mm, and 60mm macro -- detail, DOF and sharpness look great. Really cannot wait for this one haha.

More on the X Pro 1 just popped up today — Christian Fletcher just posted up some jpegs fresh off the X Pro 1, showing off what the camera can do at varying ISOs.

Here are some thumbnails of the pictures on his page:

Photorumors has also put up links to a Romanian site showing an X Pro 1 hands on session, during which the reviewers pushed the camera up to ISO 25,600 and shot a youtube video.

Users are already griping about the allegedly poor auto-focus and the overly aggressive in-camera noise-reduction, but we'll have to wait for our own copy to find out what this baby can do

Another thing to look out for: Olympus is launching a new camera — likely to be the Olympus OM-D — just a week down the road. We'll be waiting to see how it matches up to the X Pro 1.
